Living Frugal - Finding Treasures

As the weather gets chillier I am reminded that garage sale season is about over.  So sad.  I think it will be a long winter without Friday and Saturday morning bargain hunting.  I am hoping that by next spring and summer I will have the baking and gardening under control such that I can get out to more of these "treasure hunts".

Today as I left the doctor with my mom, I passed a garage sale sign.  I made a sharp left and followed the signs a few blocks with eager anticipation, running through all the kitchen items I was still looking for and hoping to find some of them at a good price!  My poor mom... even though she is not feeling 100%, I am dragging her out in pursuit of goodies.  I was going to give her the option to stay in the car to stay warm and rest but she was in hot pursuit behind me!  Secretly I think the hunt lifted her spirits a bit!

Here is what I walked away with:
There was a manual food slicer there for $3.00.  It is a stainless steel ensemble with a crank and tube for feeding the food.  There are 5 different cutting disks that go with it, to accomplish a variety of jobs.  I prefer the manual control over the electric food processor because I always turn my food into mash when given some power.  LOL.  The slicers on this one have some different shapes than the slicing disks on the one I have now.  And I could not leave it there for the price!  So home it came!  Now I basically have 2 of these so potentially I could sell one at a profit on ebay if need be.  But I think I will experiment with both of them to see which one I like better first.  (I got the first one on ebay a few months ago, so I know they sell well).

The small stainless steel covered saucepan was wonderful!!  I think it was $1.00 and in good shape.  I am trying to replace all my teflon coated pans with stainless steel because of the potential health threats in controversy using the teflon coating.  This is the perfect size for my yogurt making too and I think I have my new favorite pan!  I feel fortunate to have a lid for it!

The french fry cutter is wonderful.. $1.00.. still new in the wrapper. Can't beat that!  Journey loves french fries and I make them for her on occasion but baked in the oven.  Sometimes I season them with parmesan cheese and salt and pepper!  A cutter will make that job easier!

Two Ball jars with cute lids.  I see these all the time in flea markets and they are more like $6.00 to $8.00 each but these were just $1.00 each!  I will store my dehydrated stock and nuts in them on the counter!

The little loom was .50 and Journey will love making yarn flowers with it to decorate stuff.  She just loves little quick crafts that hold her attention to completion and I love bringing her home some fun stuff once in a while.  The Lord knows we have plenty of yarn in the basement still... will probably never need to buy any again ever!

Oh, and the ice cube trays?  Just couldn't resist them for .25 for the pair.  That was probably my one silly purchase.  Why?   Because I don't believe in bottled water and I don't like keeping things in plastic.  They will probably go into my garage sale next summer, as I think about it now.

Love going bargain shopping!!  All that on my table for $7.75.  Maybe I should put $10 a week in my piggy bank through the winter months so I can save up for something to purchase next summer when the garage sales start off again!
